Allergen Policy

Last updated: 18 June 2026

East West takes allergen management extremely seriously. The safety and wellbeing of every guest is our highest priority. This Allergen Policy sets out how we handle allergen information in our restaurant, on our website, and through our delivery partners, in accordance with UK food law.

1. Legal Framework

East West operates in full compliance with the following legislation:

  • The Food Information Regulations 2014 (FIR) (SI 2014/1855), which implement EU Regulation 1169/2011 as retained in UK law
  • The Food Safety Act 1990
  • Natasha’s Law (The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2021), which came into force on 1 October 2021, requiring full ingredient and allergen labelling on all food pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS)
  • The Food Standards Agency (FSA) Allergen Guidance for Food Businesses

Under these regulations, food businesses are legally required to declare the presence of 14 major allergens in any food they prepare or sell. East West complies with this obligation across all dining, delivery, and retail formats.

2. The 14 Declarable Allergens

We are required by law to declare the following allergens wherever present in our dishes:

  • Cereals containing gluten (including wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt, kamut)
  • Crustaceans (including prawns, crab, lobster)
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Peanuts
  • Soybeans
  • Milk (including lactose)
  • Nuts (including almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, macadamia nuts)
  • Celery (including celeriac)
  • Mustard
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sulphur dioxide and sulphites (at concentrations above 10mg/kg or 10mg/litre)
  • Lupin
  • Molluscs (including squid, mussels, clams, oysters, scallops)

3. How We Provide Allergen Information

3.1 In the Restaurant

Full allergen information for all dishes is available on request from any member of our team. Our staff are trained to handle allergen queries and will direct you to our allergen matrix where required. Please inform your server of any allergies or dietary requirements before ordering. We will always take reasonable steps to advise you on suitable menu options.

Please note that our kitchen handles all major allergens except from nuts, which we have eliminated from our products and processes. While we take rigorous precautions, we cannot guarantee that any dish is entirely free from cross-contamination. Guests with severe or life-threatening allergies should make our team aware before ordering so that appropriate measures can be discussed.

3.2 On Our Website

Allergen information is available on our website at www.eastwestlondon.com. We aim to keep this information current and accurate. In the event of a menu change, allergen details will be updated as promptly as possible. If you are unsure about any item, please contact us directly before visiting or ordering.

3.3 Delivery Orders (Deliveroo & Uber Eats)

When ordering through third-party delivery platforms such as Deliveroo or Uber Eats, allergen information is provided within the platform listing. You may also contact us directly prior to placing a delivery order if you have questions about specific ingredients or allergens. Please note that once an order is placed via a third-party platform, it may not always be possible to modify it; we therefore strongly encourage guests with allergies to contact us before ordering.

3.4 Pre-Packed for Direct Sale (PPDS) Products

In compliance with Natasha’s Law, all food items that are pre-packed for direct sale — including any sauces, condiments, or packaged items sold at the restaurant or through retail channels — carry full ingredient lists with allergens clearly emphasised in bold. This includes our East West-branded bottled sauces where available.

4. Staff Training & Kitchen Procedures

All East West kitchen and front-of-house staff receive allergen awareness training as part of their induction and on an ongoing basis. Our procedures include:

  • Maintaining a current allergen matrix for all menu items, reviewed upon any menu change
  • Using separate preparation surfaces, utensils, and cookware where reasonably practicable to minimise cross-contamination risk
  • Clear communication between front-of-house and kitchen staff when an allergen request is made
  • Labelling of ingredients in storage to prevent cross-contamination
  • Regular review of supplier ingredient information to identify allergen changes in supplied products

5. Cross-Contamination Disclaimer

East West’s kitchen is not an allergen-free environment. Our menu features a wide range of ingredients, and many of the 14 major allergens — including gluten, dairy, eggs, and sesame — are regularly present in our kitchen.

While we take all reasonable precautions to prevent cross-contamination, we are unable to guarantee that any dish is completely free from traces of allergens not listed in its ingredients. This includes the risk of airborne particles, shared cooking equipment, and supplier-side cross-contact.

Guests with severe allergies (including anaphylaxis risk) are strongly encouraged to speak directly with a member of our management team before ordering. We will always do our best to accommodate you safely, but we must be transparent about the limitations of our kitchen environment.

6. Vegan & Vegetarian Dishes

East West is proud to offer a range of vegetarian and vegan dishes, including options promoted as part of initiatives such as Veganuary. Dishes marked as vegan or vegetarian on our menu are prepared with care; however, they are prepared in a kitchen that also handles animal products.

If you follow a strict vegan or vegetarian diet for health or religious reasons, please speak to our team who can advise on preparation methods and cross-contact risks for specific dishes.

7. Allergen Information Accuracy

We make every effort to ensure allergen information is accurate and up to date. However, recipes, suppliers, and ingredients may change from time to time. The allergen information we provide reflects the standard recipe for each dish. Individual portions may vary slightly.

We are not liable for any allergic reaction arising from failure to disclose a known allergy at the time of ordering, or arising from cross-contamination in circumstances where the guest has been made aware of the kitchen environment and has chosen to proceed.
